Dear Park’s Edge Preschool Families:
August…already? Why does summer have to go so fast it’s my favorite time of the year at Park’s Edge Preschool? Wednesday, June 14th we kicked off our summer program on a roll…two, three or four wheels rolling that is, for our annual bike blessing! Friday, August 18th we are requesting every child bring a wheeled toy from home again for another special day of wheeled riding at PEP. It is so much fun to see the wide range of wheeled toys and the children’ bike riding abilities. This summer we have the bonus in getting to see their riding abilities at the beginning and the end of summer. I look forward to sharing the progress the children have developed in their bike riding skills over the summer!
Our annual summer highlight which is becoming a family favorite is AugustFest. This year’s family fun event for all ages will be held from 11am to 4pm on Sunday, August 6th. AugustFest is a collaboration between Emanuel Church and Park’s Edge Preschool. Last year we added a ‘Car Show’ and this year’s new addition is a ‘dog show’ too! Our inflatables this year is a 3 Lane Derby and a 4 -in-1 Toy Story. The carnival-like games are for all ages big and small and I include; Old favorites: A Fishing Game, Bean Bag Toss, Tic-Tac-Toe, Duck Pond and Dino Egg Dig to name a few. Adult/Family games added this year…Backyard kerplunk, Giant Jenga, Backyard Twister, Sponge Bombs and everyone’s favorite Pie-in the teacher’s eye! AugustFest wristbands for the children are sold in advance at PEP or will be available at AugustFest. Unlimited games, inflatables and a children’s meal (hot dog, chips and a pickle) all for only $15.00 wristband. Another new feature is a photo booth with props for $1 per family mini photo!
AugustFest is an intergenerational community event sponsored by Emanuel Church and Park’s Edge Preschool that you won’t want to miss! There will be plenty of fun and food for all age groups…AugustFest wouldn’t be the same without… music with DJ Mike Breitbach, raffle baskets and a tug of war between Emanuel Church and Park’s Edge Preschool lovingly named the John Farina Memorial Tug of War in his honor! (Remember last year Park’s Edge Preschool won two out of three matches! We look forward to this year’s challenge!) Let’s not forget the food wonderful food… roasted Oktoberfest chicken, brats, hot dogs, potato salad, chips, coleslaw, beans, pop- corn, pretzels, a variety of desserts and beverages (beer, wine, soda and water). Come one, come all, and of course, please bring grandparents and cousins too!
One of the highlights for me this summer is experiencing our program firsthand in the parent/guardian role. Oliver, my cousin’s six-year-old, has been living with my husband Craig and I since late April after his mom ran into complications giving birth to a healthy baby boy. Elizabeth, his mom, was in the ICU for over 2 months and is slowly recovering in the hospital. Life with Oliver has given me a whole new perspective on our wonderful 5-star quality rated program. Our loving staff and the Christian environment has been very supportive for this little guy. I appreciate all the prayers and encouragement the entire family has received through this very difficult and unforeseen time and transition.
‘Noah Was a Good Listener’ will be performed for all the children by our school-age group. The older children are very enthusiastic about the opportunity to demonstrate God’s message and share our Christian philosophy. The performance is on Wednesday, August 23rd at 4 pm. Hope you’ll come…we need an audience to perform for…$3 tickets popcorn included! The proceeds go to the Pizza Party on Thursday, August 24th! This is an open invitation to neighbors, friends and extended family members.
Summer 2017 has been very memorable! I am sad to say ‘farewell’ to some of my departing friends. Please stay in touch and have a happy and safe school year. The staff and I are happy to welcome new friends and families to PEP for the upcoming school year. Watch for the communication introducing our beloved PEP teaching faculty for 2017- 2018 school-year. You will have an opportunity to learn more about each teacher and why we chose them to complement our high-quality program. They make all the difference in the world at Park’s Edge Preschool!
Sincerely,
Ellen M. Kvalheim
